Bachelorette begins...
Thanks McMommy for your opinions about the Bachalorette, which began on Monday. I, too, think Jillian is a class act and I am so happy she is the Bachelorette! This is the most creepy group of guys I have ever seen though. As if we needed 5 more creepers?!?
1. Foot fetish guy has to go! Tanner P. But I really think Jill knows theres a little something up with him since she said she is going to have to check him out a little better. And is it just me or is does he look like someone?
like, er, Matthew Lillard? or is that just me?
2. The guy that called her a sexy minx and 'Hot Tub Harris' is gone THANK GOD! But huge props go to Jillian for playing that off.
3. Finally, John H.
I really felt bad for that dude, feeling like he had lost his soul mate and all, but he was a creepy close talker. uh...excuse me...give her a little breathing room!
4. What was up with the whole conversation between Brian and Kyle? First of all, I thought Kyle was a cutie. Vintage-Bronx-metro-man with all things artsy to talk about. He was charming, and he looked like Ryan Gosling with the cute overconfident personality to boot (not to mention the fact that he could kick pretty high).
But Brian ???
Why is it that Alabama people always look like redneck idiots on television? I mean, Really? The trailers comment? Seriously? And can someone please tell me why he got a rose?? especially over Kyle??
So, here are my top 5 picks:
1.
Jake the pilot. My hands down fave, but wonder if he seems a little too good to be true.
2.
Kypton is great, but still need to get to know him a bit.
3.
Michael. Just crazy about him and his break-dancing self.
4.
Mathue. Very nice.
5. Sasha is not half bad either. I mainly like him because of his family. They were cute and I think Jillian would have fun with that crew.
And here's my prediction...
Who can tell at this point, and I always get these things wrong, but I am predicting from the previews that Jake ends up being one of the ones with a possible girlfriend or something that would break her heart. I am thinking Michael makes it into the top 2 atleast because it sounds like his voice at the end saying 'i love you'.
So, that's all I have for now, but can't wait til Monday to see how it all unfolds.

EmergentSpeak
Note that I have a new blog/link list! The obsession with the Emergent Movement and Christian history waxes and wains with me (unlike my love affair with Jesus), but occasionally I will find a book, church, conversation, or website that rekindles my interest. In this case, I discovered this podcast on itunes. Meet Homebrewed Christianity . They feature interviews by different people influencing the Emergent Movement including Phyllis Tickle, Tony Jones, Peter Rollins, etc.
Plus Tripp and Chad are worthy entertainers and theologians themselves. Check it out.
The EmergentSpeak blog/link list will feature websites and blogs that are worth taking the time to check in on every so often. mypeople contains a few of these fellow Emergents (Blake, Greg, and Tyler...whatsup!) as well. I love the Emergent Movement. It speaks to my inner postmodern child that somehow grew strong regardless of the fact that I grew up in small town biblebelt southernBaptist world. SO funny. SO true. Anyway, Thank you GOD for the Emergent Movement and what it has meant for my soul and spirit.

Okay, so let's be honest. Those of us who love HGTV, don't exactly watch it for the charisma of the designers. We just wanna see the rooms! But tonight, a man named Matthew Finlason from HGTV's new show, The Stagers, changed all that for me. This guy is exciting, halarious, and clearly entertaining! I can't tell you that much about his design (I'm sure it's great), but he is for HGTV what Simon Cowell is for American Idol. THE personality!
A Gathering
As you know, my family participates in home church, but occasionally a few of us attend other local church events to learn, experience and grow. We attended a gathering of Followers 2 weeks ago that was very fresh. They were gathered in attempts to imulate a first century church experience like that of the New Testament (like we do, but a little bit larger group with a very specific ministry). The desire for the "church" was: for everyone to have open access to all parts of church (to question things, to figure out how things work and why and how), that all things are free, that people should be judged by their fruit only (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) and not by any external, to allow and be radically transparent, to decentralize leadership because accumulating power (wealth, hierarchy) is contradictory to Christ, to represent a Christian community by being honest and beautiful (to include the arts in their worship and life), to attempt to change the world for the better because God's love is justice. I must also point out that saying 'everyone has a voice, so speak up' means that everyone's voice has influence, so words should be chosen carefully.
We sang Sacred Heart style (which means as loudly and vulnerably as you can) the Trishagion. Then, because it was the groups first time to meet, we all went around and shared what "church" means to us or we feel is important to "church". There were some wonderful thoughts and quotes! Here's a few:
1. church doesn't have to be formal. a conversation exalting Christ with a brother or sister can be church.
2. it's important for people to try to have open ears and not be easily offended, but attempt to see through eyes of love.
3. worship through diversity is impactful. knowing that you are surrounded by people in the world who don't speak the same language or come from the same culture, but that are driven by one foundation (Christ) is beautiful and we should embrace that.
4. Church is the most beautiful and most compromised thing he'd ever known, and he would love to leave, but where would he go?
5. Church is people being open and sharing. Much like an AA meeting. We are all recovering from sin.
6. Church should be family. Church should be without fear. Church should be safe. Church should be an interaction with the heart of God.
7. In the New Testament, we know only that the church gathered, sang, listened, taught, and ate.
8. Church should do unto the least of these.
9. In America it is difficult to identify yourself as a community rather than an individual. I would love the church to help me identify myself as a people rather than a person.
10. I believe in the Bible. I believe in all kinds of things. But the only thing that has ever changed me is: Being loved. Over time.
11. I think church should be a snapshot of heaven.
12. The church is a whore, but she is my mother.
13. The church is a conspiracy of people who have dreams and need each other to make our dreams come true.
Some of this stuff is precious and rings truth in my ears. Some of it, I'm not so sure about. I would love to hear any reactions or thoughts...
